Nokia has officially announced that they are going to provide free GPS turn-by-turn navigation service for all Nokia smartphones worldwide. There are some Nokia smart phones that are currently enjoying the free GPS navigation such as the 5800 Navigation edition and the 2700 Navigation edition. And they’re adding more phones to get the free GPS, which are listed for you after the jump.

The Nokia’s free GPS service on Nokia Smart phones is also backed by Nokia Ovi Maps, with a new version of the maps to be available that will include high-end walk and drive navigation at no extra cost, turn-by-turn voice guidance for 74 countries, in 46 languages, and traffic information for more than 10 countries as well as detailed maps for more than 100 countries. The Ovi Maps can be downloaded from Nokia website. You’ll also get free event guides, free Lonely Planet guides and Free Michelin Guides on the system.

The Nokia N97 is not in the list above, but it’ll get the Ovi Maps starting from Jan 28, whereas the Nokia N900 will probably not get free navigation. Nokia is to launch smart phones pre-loaded with the Ovi Maps starting in March. The free GPS service on Nokia smart phones surely brings great impact to GPS service providers like TomTom and Garmin.

Nokia E72, the much awaited device has finally arrived in India. Nokia E72 device is considered the successor to the very famous E71. Nokia E72 brings a rich mobile email and instant messaging experience right out of the box, making it the perfect device for people that want to be productive in both their personal and professional lives.

Ilari Nurmi, Vice President at Nokia said, “Despite the outstanding market performance of the Nokia E71, we still continually look for ways to enhance the device,” “So we included the desktop like email experience from the Nokia E75 and gave it a new optical navigation key for more intuitive scrolling through menus, emails and fast panning of images. We also upgraded the camera to 5 megapixels and added a standard 3.5 mm audio jack.”

The phone also comes pre-installed with Nokia Messaging and a host of Office Productivity Suites. For the first time, users will be able to set up instant messaging (IM) accounts provided by Nokia Messaging direct from the home screen. In just a few steps, device owners will be able to connect to their favorite IM accounts such as Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi, amongst many others.

Other notable features include A-GPS and compass with integrated Maps, including lifetime walk and 10 days of turn-by-turn navigation if activated within the first three months. Conversations are also clearer with active noise cancellation, and a torch can be activated with a single press of the spacebar key. Nokia E72 has more or less everything that the E71 fell short of. The phone has been priced at Rs. 22,989.

Despite a tough regulatory environment for mobile banking in India, Nokia expects to soon roll out its financial and banking services in the country under the banner of ‘Nokia Money’. The world’s largest mobile phone company has initiated talks with six banks in India who will be responsible for cash management and handling banking regulatory issues. As per Nokia’s strategy, it plans to tap its huge network of 1.9 lakh phone retailers and dealers who will act as the consumer point and banking correspondents.

Nokia will offer an universal platform where the mobile phone can be a medium for banking, international remittance, payment of utility bills, pay merchants for goods and services and buying tickets. “India figures amongst the top 20 countries where we plan to roll out Nokia Money in the first phase. While at present Indian banks may have a mobile banking platform, it is limited to a single bank and telecom operator. What we plan to offer is a full-fledged service which will bring together all banks, operators and even handsets of other brands,” said Teppo Paavola, global head of Nokia Money service. Talking about the regulatory challenges in India, Mr Paavola said the key issue will be to turn the Nokia retailers into Nokia Money agent.

The handset uses Nokia’s S40 UI and it only has dual-band GSM connectivity (900/1800 MHz). Its other features apparently include: 128 x 160 pixels display, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, Opera Mini browser, VGA camera, 10MB of internal memory, and a battery that should last up to 8 hours in talk-time mode, or up to 400 hours in stand-by.
