Nokia Borrows 636 Million

Despite the bad economy, Nokia has still managed to borrow 500 million Euros ($636 million) from the European Investment Bank. This will be stretched over 5 years and will be tailored towards research and development projects between now and 2011.

While the money will be used for Nokia’s own internal work, but the research that is funded by the loan will certainly help the Symbian Foundation and non-Nokia Symbian devices.

Nokia 5800 Firmware Update

Nokia has released its latest firmware for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic via its Software Update application. The new firmware, v11.0.008, will supposedly give the phone more stability and will add Google Search to the device’s built-in Internet search application. Other improvements include fixes for bugs in the web browser and music player. As usual, remember to back up your data before performing an update.

Nokia 6208c is official

Nokia 6208c has just been officially announced. As expected, the 6208c will be sold mainly across China, as it features support for Chinese language and characters, and a touchscreen display with handwriting recognition. According to Nokia, other select markets should get the phone too, although there’s no word yet on which these are.

The unannounced Nokia 6208 Classic is the first to have a touchscreen and a regular alphanumeric keypad. Nokai is getting ready to launch yet another touchscreen handset under the name of Nokia 6208 Classic.

Nokia Introduces the N97

N97 is Nokia’s latest smartphone that has both a 3.5″ touchscreen display and a full QWERTY keyboard. You will recognize the Nokia touch in the design, but it is definitely more edgy than previous models. It is of course a 3.5G (HSDPA) phone that also has WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Nokia to out the “Tube” touchscreen phone by year end

The iPhone has been through two generations already while the largest handset manufacturer in the world seems to be waking up to the call at last, albeit a bit groggily. Nokia has now confirmed that the Tube aka 5800 XpressMedia touchscreen cell phone will be launched before this year is up. We pretty much know everything there is to know about the 5800, but an official nudge in the right direction of a price and a proper release date was missing.

Devinder Kishore, Nokia India’s marketing director had this to say about the upcoming device: With the acquisition of Symbian, we will be able to offer our customers more innovative products and the latest technology. We have been working on the Series 60
platform for touchscreen user interface and a mobile device is expected to be launched by the year-end.
